Zahra Joya, an Afghan journalist, has been reporting since 2011, focusing on women’s and children’s issues. In 2020, she founded Rukhshana Media, a women-led news outlet covering women’s issues in Afghanistan. The news agency is named after a woman who was stoned to death in 2015, for trying to marry the man of her choosing. Shortly after the Taliban takeover in Aug. 2021, Joya was evacuated to Britain, where she continues to manage Rukhshana Media from London.
